Chongqing is one of China's directly controlled municipalities (the others are Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai) and is the largest municipality in southwestern China. It is located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Chongqing is the economic center of western China, which gives it a distinct identity from that of its eastern counterparts.

History: Chongqing may not be as historically rich as other Chinese cities, but its lineage can still be traced back several millennia. This said its true historical legacy is found during world war II when it became the wartime capital of the ROC during the Japanese invasion.

Climates: Known as one of the three furnaces due its unique geography. Chongqing boasts hot, humid weather, yet has the lowest sunshine average in the world for a major city (Edinburgh has 400 more hours and Dikson, Russia has 100 more). The average temperature is 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 Fahrenheit). In winter the average temperature is 6-8 degrees Celsius (42.8-46.4 Fahrenheit), summers average 32 degrees Celsius (89.6 Fahrenheit). It rains quite often and is constantly foggy, but this atmosphere has given rise to the belief that Chongqing people have the best skin in China.

Attractions: It is known as the ‘Mountain City’, its natural wonders and cultural heritage attracts many visitors, visitors can go on a downstream tour to the magnificent Three Gorges. They can also venture to the spooky Ghost city of Fengdu which has architecture and sights said to resemble hell as it is thought of in Chinese traditional folk religions.
